The Celebrate the Freedom to Read Coalition consists of the ACLU of Oregon, the Intellectual Freedom Committee of the Oregon Library Association and the Intellectual Freedom Committee of the Oregon Association of School Libraries. The SIRS-Proquest State and Regional Achievement Award recognizes achievements that have a statewide or regional focus on an intellectual freedom issue and is accompanied by a $1,000 prize. In 2008, Banned Books Week was celebrated at 241 sites throughout Oregon including academic libraries, public libraries, school libraries and bookstores. Ten thousand “I Read Banned Books” buttons were distributed through those sites.
