The ACLU of Oregon undertakes litigation when that is the best way to advance civil rights or civil liberties. Our litigation program focuses on cases that have an impact on people's rights by setting a legal precedent or affecting the policies and actions of public officials. Depending on the case, we may provide direct legal representation to people or file amicus (friend-of-thecourt) briefs addressing civil liberties issues in cases brought by others. All the ACLU's legal work is on a pro bono basis; we never charge for our legal services.
