The conference will revolve around skill development, issue analysis, and building advocacy strategies. This will be a great place for anyone looking to meet other activists, gain knowledge and practical skills on civil rights and civil liberties issues, and plug into the work of the ACLU of Oregon and other organizations in the fight for social justice. Plus, we will have a special keynote speech from Maru Mora Villalpando, one of the country’s most prominent and fearless immigrant-rights activists!

Join us for the Marion County District Attorney Candidate Forum!

District attorneys are the most powerful people in the criminal justice system.  These elected leaders decide who to charge with a crime, and what kind of crime to charge a person with.  They have the power to end mass incarceration, to stop racial disparities, and to put a check on police violence.

You can meet Paige Clarkson, likely Marion County's next district attorney, at our candidate forum. This is your chance to hear about her platform, ask questions, and share your vision for a better criminal justice system.

The ACLU of Oregon is a nonpartisan organization that does not endorse or oppose any candidate for office. We are engaging in this work to promote voter education and participation because there is so much at stake for civil liberties and the rights of all communities in Marion County.

Join us for the Washington County District Attorney Candidate Public Forum.

District attorneys are the most powerful people in the criminal justice system. These elected leaders decide who to charge with a crime, and what kind of crime to charge a person with. They have the power to end mass incarceration, or to fuel it.

Washington County has its first contested DA race since 1972. And it’s an opportunity for voters to make their voices heard and to choose what your criminal justice system looks like.

Candidate Kevin Barned has declined to attend (read about that here). Candidate Max Wall will be there. It’s your chance to hear about his platform, ask questions, call for reform, and get the facts before you vote.

The event is free and open to the public.
