This is Doug Brown, the ACLU of Oregon's newest employee. I'd like to take a minute and say hello.

I'm thrilled to have joined the ACLU of Oregon as a communications associate, helping to spread the word about civil liberties in the state and the important work being done by an organization I've long admired. What a time to be at the ACLU. 

My background is in journalism. A few of you may know me from my two years as a Portland Mercury news reporter. I was on the front lines of nearly all the massive post-election protests, reporting on and photographing the Portland Police Bureau's often-brutal responses. I covered jail issues and problems with the criminal justice system. I wrote about immigration and ICE. I covered police oversight meetings. I was the first to expose Jeremy Christian and Russell Courtier as white supremacists after they were arrested for separate murders. 

I'm from the Midwest. I grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and then lived in Ohio for college (political science at Hiram College), graduate school (journalism at Kent State), and work (Cleveland Scene, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Deadspin, and more) prior to moving to Oregon.
