People Power is Real

November 4, 2026
The 2026 midterm elections proved that every vote matters, including yours.

Incredible! Across our country, we saw voters who stood up for their loved ones and neighbors — for our basic rights and our democracy.

This election proved that every vote and every voter counts. What we achieved together was made possible by the people power that fueled election protection work across the country, as well as Get Out The Vote (GOTV) and voter education campaigns.

During the 2026 election cycles, your ACLU of Oregon team worked valiantly to connect with Oregonians across the state to make sure that voters had voting plans and important education about our candidates.

  • We sent 759,193 GOTV mail pieces to voters of color, young voters, and other historically underrepresented voter groups through the Voter Participation Center.
  • We made 147,925 GOTV phone calls that reached 98,561 people!
  • ACLU of Oregon staff and volunteers sent 371,085 text messages to ensure that Oregonians had voting plans!
  • We also did important voter education about the Oregon governor’s race.
  • During the May 2026 primaries, we had candidates across the state sign onto our Freedom Pledge that addresses important civil liberties and civil rights issues.

Oregonians regularly lead the nation with our rates of voting, but it never hurts to provide folks with GOTV reminders. These types of responses remind us why our work is so important:

“I don’t usually vote but if the ACLU is texting me I’ll turn my ballot in,” and “This text came in clutch, my ballot was in my mailbox.”

Along with our direct GOTV and voter education work, the ACLU of Oregon provided valuable support to other nonprofit organizations so that they could accomplish GOTV programs to engage with younger voters, disabled voters, rural voters, Indigenous voters, and voters of color in communities across our state.

The ACLU of Oregon also supported the important civil liberties work of other ACLU affiliates — contributing to ACLU of Colorado’s efforts to defeat anti-trans ballot measures and ACLU of Missouri’s efforts to defeat an anti-trans and anti-abortion ballot measure.

In addition to the work above, the ACLU of Oregon team was a key part of the election protection system in Oregon. We helped develop and implement the election protection system across our state and also developed an attorney observer program to be deployed as needed. ACLU of Oregon staff also traveled to support the ACLU of Texas’s election protection efforts.

This election season, we reminded Oregonians that we must protect our loved ones and neighbors by voting, and you all stepped up. Let us celebrate what we accomplished together in Oregon and across our nation — and also rest and recover. Join us when you’re ready for more because we are continuing to build a more just, equitable, and caring democracy in Oregon.
